Headlines Bring Sales–Where and How to Use Them – Part 2

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 30th, 2011 by admin

Headlines are short vital statements to stimulate your potential customers and clients to take action. That means sales! Since you only have 10 seconds to attract your visitor or reader, create headlines to make ultimate sales.

Your benefit-driven headlines are your 24/7 sales team working for your while you relax your favorite way.

Without them, your ezine ads, email promotions, special reports, eBooks, book and article titles, chapter titles, ezines and print newsletters, and Web site will not pull visitor attention, trust, credibility, traffic or sales.

Headlines bring far more sales than the copy following them. Perhaps you are a skimmer too. Skimmers usually just read the headline. Part one of this article is available, email article-71@bookcoaching.com.

How to Use Headlines

Within the body of the piece use headlines to inspire and motive the reader to keep reading to get their questions answered. The reason they read your article is to learn how to solve their problem. Headlines organize and guide your reader to make it easy for him/her to read. With appreciation for your useful article they may click on your product or service to buy you offer in your signature file at the bottom.

Within “The BIG 3 Marketing Machine” report, this headline pulls reader action: “Leverage your Sales Through a Short Headline.”

4. EBOOK TITLES AND TABLE OF CONTENTS

Your eBook or print book title is an example of a headline. With only 4-8 seconds to impress, make sure it sizzles with the number one benefit and your preferred audience included.

Sample titles that sell: “Increase your Traffic and Web Sales Five Times in 30 Days,” “Ten Roadblocks Between You and a Real Life,” “Cold Calling: The Reverse Selling Way,” and “Speak Like a Pro For Profit.” Notice the benefits.

Within your book your chapter titles are also examples of headlines. These are so important to guide the reader through your information in an organized, compelling style. They help focus your reader and make your book easy-to-read, a great selling point. Since your chapter titles evolve into your table of contents, make them stimulate your possible buyer to pay for your book right now. These are what my eBook calls “EssentialHot-Selling Points.”

In one client’s chapter “You’re Having No Fun and it Makes You Sick” from a book on how relationships can be hazardous to your health, she offered these headings: “No One Told You? You Put Off Fun Til Later? He Healed Himself with Laughter! Are You Stuck in the Muck? and Stretch Your Fun Muscles.”

5. EZINES AND NEWSLETTERS

Just as with your chapter titles, every section of your ezine needs a headline. For instance, “Feature Article of the Month,” “Business

Tip of the Month,” or “Publisher’s Message.” These are listed in your ezine’s table of contents near the top of the ezine. They give your prospective reader benefit-driven headlines to attract them to read on.

6. WEBSITES

Since headlines are the most important part of your home page and sales letters on your Web site, think about your site now. If you don’t have headlines on your home page that lead your visitor straight to your product or service sales letter and order page, you probably have low sales.

Why will visitors buy from you? They certainly don’t care about your bio, your mission or purpose. They won’t stay if your home page opens with a large graphic. Your potential customers want to learn more about how you can solve their problem, and that demands dazzling, meaty headlines.

For an eBook, one author put this headline on his home page: Want to Know How to Add 200 New Subscribers Each Month?” This headline led Web potential buyers straight to his sales letter and links to where the Online promotion product was sold.

For a Feng Shui Kit one client put this home page headline and link to her product sales letter on her home page: “Do you Miss the Sacred in Your Daily Life? Rediscover it with “The Sacred Collection.” In her sales letter she wrote more headlines and bullets for specific benefits throughout her sales letter.

7. LINK EXCHANGE

Reciprocal Web link exchanges are a win-win in business, since this is one way to optimize your search engine placement. When you agree with another Web site to exchange links, offer both a short and long version of your link. In the longer one, be sure to place a benefit-driven headline with the URL and a free offer. These annotated links stand out from the crowd and give visitors more information to make a decision..

When you add zesty, power-packed headlines to anything your write or use to promote yourself and your business, you will attract your target potential buyers who evolve into buyers.

Are Popups Good for Marketing? Annoying to Some, Interesting to Others!

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 30th, 2011 by admin

The big question. Do people actually pay attention to pop ups? With so many softwares out there that deal with blocking pop ups you’d think the answer would clear. Back a few years ago pop ads were all the craze, but as more and more sites starting using them they became more like spam then anything else. I mean how many sites have you visited where they will pop up an add every second page or so. This is especially annoying when you are searching for something. So yes they can get on a persons nerves.

On the other hand when a pop up comes up that actually interests a person in what your company or site is offering then it can actually be beneficial to for the person viewing it. Though the problem is with every good pop up ad is there are usually 10 other ones coming up that either have fake offers on them or don’t even interest the visitor at all. This is where the good pop ups fall through the cracks. With so many spam pop ups we tend to jump to the conclusion that all pop ups are garbage and we just ignore them, even the good ones. There are so

many people out there now that have a popup blocker on their system, you ad may never get seen.

Another point is when you purchase traffic from a site/company that offers so many targeted visitors for so much money, most of them are using pop ups to send you traffic. Even though this raises the level of unique visitors you are getting, the visitors aren’t truly wanting to or interested in what you are offering. Yes they may even click around your site a bit, but chances are they are leaving after a few pages.

So when it comes right down to it the benefits of a pop up campaign probably don’t and won’t give you the results you want. I am not saying that it absolutely will not but, in all likely hood your ad will get blocked, closed off and even yelled at a bit:). So put your advertising budget in a better direction and save us all some trouble of having to click off your add.

How To Make Money Online

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 28th, 2011 by admin

Catch the cash on the net…in more ways than one.

Thousands of dollars in commission? Does the idea sound too good to be true? Well, it’s what people like you and me are earning these days. Thanks to the Internet. Couple of years ago, you’d probably think its gab. But if you have been online lately, you’d have come across hundreds of thousands who have earned millions on the Internet. And it’s not too difficult either. Common people like us have gone from rags to riches by using the medium to the maximum potential. If you are thinking its too late for you to start, then NO! it’s never too late to start. Although the potential of this medium is only burgeoning day by day, there are millions across the globe who have learnt the secrets of making money on the Internet. So if you have to do it, the right time is NOW.

There are various ways to break free from the shackles of a 9 to 5 job. You can now earn from the comforts of your home office in simple ways. The major income providers are:

Selling your own service

If you don’t have a service already, the most difficult part is to develop one. Now what you can develop depends entirely on your skills and budget. If the budget is pretty tight, you can still fall back on your skills. Here are a few popular Internet services:

  • Web/Graphics Design

  • Copywriting

  • Software Development

  • Marketing Consultant

  • Publicist

  • Search Engine Optimization/Submissions

There are lots of people across the world, who are ready to pay for your services. All you have to do is advertise your service at the right place and see people flocking to you for support.

Selling your own product

Developing your own product to market on the Internet isn’t as difficult as you may think. Everybody is good at something. You don’t have to be a Rocket Scientist in order to create your own product. Maybe you have a special talent or some specialized knowledge. Use this knowledge to create a product.

Here are a few subjects to give you some ideas for creating a product

  • Recipes

  • Cooking

  • Sewing Tips

  • Gardening

  • Canning

  • Makeup and Skin Care

  • Weight Loss

  • Self Improvement

  • Health and Fitness

  • Child Development

  • Teenagers

  • Romance

  • Dating

  • Relationships

  • Divorce

  • Single Mothers

  • Single Fathers

  • Teenage Mothers

  • Teenage Fathers

  • Home Decorating

  • Home Remodeling

  • Home Maintenance

  • Plumbing

  • Carpentry

  • Small Appliance Repair

  • Home Buying

  • Auto Mechanics

  • Auto Buying

  • Home Finances

  • Home Business

  • Computers

  • Internet

Write a small book on the subject. Or, sell your knowledge to portals that need it. Of course, it’s quite a lot of hard work. But that shouldn’t deter you. Right?

Selling someone else’s product/service

Also called as affiliate program, this is the easier way to earn cash on the net. Although it might not be as profitable as selling your own product/service, your marketing skills can surely do wonders. As an affiliate, you refer people or prospective buyers to

the company you are affiliated to. When someone you referred buys, you get a commission. The catch lies in identifying a niche where you can be number 1 and selling products that are closely related to your niche.

Successful affiliate marketers have their own web sites, which they use effectively by generating ample traffic through innovative strategies. For more info on how you can make more money online, try browsing through these sites:

http://www.affiliatesdirectory.com

http://www.cj.com

If you’re serious about making money on the Net, follow this link and download your copy of our “Internet X factor” and “Internet Marketing Protégé Program” It is by far the most resourceful Internet marketing tool – and it won’t bust your budget. On top of that, it comes with an unconditional money-back guarantee so you can try it risk-free.

Selling advertising space

Once you have a web site that generates ample traffic, advertisers would pay you to display their banners on your site. This is probably one of the oldest and most hyped ways to make money. Although it might not be a great money making idea, it’s till worth a try.

Keep surfing…

If you are serious about building a huge enterprise on the net, this is not the right money making option. But if you want to make some extra bucks without investing any money or even extra time, then this is what you should be looking at. The best part of this money making option is that you don’t have to do anything extraordinary. You will be paid to surf the net, read emails, answering surveys, etc. The catch however is that you are bombarded with advertisements.

For more on this, type “getting paid to surf” into the search box at Google and hit “Enter”. Take your pick.

Are these as simple? Of course they are. Only, you need to be in the business wholeheartedly and devote enough time to make it work. Even when you drive the new generation cars, the least you are expected is to gas it up, change gears, and push the accelerator. But that’s about it. A little concentration and you can join the exclusive club of Internet millionaires.

Basics to Internet Marketing

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 27th, 2011 by admin

The internet is a place where people often throw darts into the darkness hoping that someday, somehow they’ll hit a bulls eye. Most people nurture a mistaken notion that huge amount of traffic can eventuate good business without paying any attention to what sort of people are coming to the website. This is the worst sort of Internet Marketing.

No matter how revolutionary your product or service is, unless it is backed by a well-thought-out Internet Marketing strategy, it is as good as being non-existent. You have got to be as sure as any of the conventional brick and mortar businesses.

Breaking the great wall of non-presence is the biggest challenge one faces while trying to set up an online business. When you set up your online shop, you don’t know them and they don’t know you. You need to make your presence felt; you need to set up an identity for yourself that tells your visitors that you are not an unemployed weirdo trying to dupe visitors from your dark and unheated basement. Your website should seem to represent a genuine business that can really deliver. How can you do that?

==> HAVE A WELL-MADE WEBSITE <==

A good website is quintessential to your online presence. It is your online office; people come there and draw an impression. Even the first glance can make or break a great business transaction. Your website should be neat and clean, It should be accessible to people of all abilities and it should have a well-structured navigation system. There should be no broken links and all the essential pages should be there.

==>> CONTENT IS, OF COURSE, KING <<==

If having a decent website is important, then so is having the

right kind of content on your pages. As mentioned above, your website represents you amidst the din of the World Wide Web. Since you are not there to directly talk to your visitors, your website accomplishes that task. Make your content — whether graphic or textual — as convincing as you can. Utmost care should be given to the language and the tone to make sure your visitors get all the right information they need to take their visit to the next level.

==>> KEEP PERSISTENT CONTACT <<==

Establishing an identity takes time, and this is not just unique to the internet. Companies invest millions of dollars on establishing their brands. On the Internet, you need to establish your identity, you need your name to sound familiar, and you need to be there almost all the time. You should be accessible to your present and future customers and clients; you should always be in a constant conversation. A good way to carry out a regular conversation is publishing a regular newsletter (ezine) or blog where you post regular updates about your business.

Finally, although there are numerous “killer” methods being sold as the ubiquitous reports that claim to make you millions, there is no substitute for a thing called good old hard work. As in any form of business, hard work is need to build trust, to initiate a two-way communication, to render a countenance to your online presence your customers can relate to, and to deliver goods and services that set you on a path of long-term profitability.

How To Pull Massive Profits From Resale Rights Instantly

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 27th, 2011 by admin

What’s in your name?

I’m not trying to be funny here, this basic question holds the key to you making much more money with your resale rights business than you probably realized.

May I ask again then: “what’s in your name”?

If you look at it, the main difference between your name and everyone’s else is well, it’s different…

And here’s the vital key to pulling massive profits from resale rights you can take advantage of instantly:

..Just be different!

The resale rights business is very lucrative but extremely competitive, without doing something different from the thousands of other resellers out there, your chance of success will be unjustly limited.

Being different makes you stand out from among the rest, and give customers a good reason to buy from you, instead of the same ‘me-too’ crowd.

Here are three powerful ways to achieve the differentiation you need:

(1) Creating a new image

You’d NOT want to use the plug-in websites, salesletters and graphics that come packaged with many resale rights products.

Everyone’s using them that’s why.

The first and fastest way to become unique is to get new graphics for the product. Next you may even want to rewrite the sales letter if the original doesn’t convert well.

Even a simple thing as changing the web background colour can bring increased results…

I did just that with “Net Gurus Secrets Revealed” and response literally skyrocketed

=> http://TurnkeyMoney.com/netgurus

What you’d want to do basically is:

Breathe NEW LIFE into both your new AND old resale products by simply changing their looks!

(2) Creating a new package

Another proven

tactic is to create a brand new resale package, and this is entirely within your control and creatively.

Surefire methods to do this include packaging new bonuses, creating themed packages and combining audio and video tutorials…

There’re many combinations of how to do this, and again it’s up to your own creativity to come up with new ideas.

(3) Re-creating a ‘new’ strategy

Here’s something you ought to think about…

Many resellers simply forget the fundamental truth that everything comes down to good old marketing, yes even resale rights.

Apply all the marketing strategies you know to resale rights and I guarantee you making much more profits.

For example how many people bother to promote their resale rights products through articles?

Not many I can tell you.

Applying time-tested marketing tactics to your resale rights business can mean increased profits easily, so don’t ever limit yourself.

Now this is JUST ONE technique you’ve learned here today, check out http://www.ResaleRightsSecrets.com for more powerful ways to instantly profit from simple resale rights products you never thought existed!

The Deadly Itch!

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 25th, 2011 by admin

It is a story about Manku, a blind man who was lost in a maze of wealth. It is a story about each of us. Read and interpret carefully.

Manku was a poor blind man. He worked very hard to feed his family and himself. After day’s toil everyday he could barely manage to survive. He was a talented man but the man he worked for did not pay him well. Manku never complained but always got sad when he received his monthly wages.

He wanted a good house. Good clothes for his children, a lot of jewelry for his wife and all possible comforts of life that money can bring. But everything seemed just a dream. He worked hard everyday on the same wages as the time passed by.

One day he considered going to maze of wealth. He had heard about this earlier too but people were speaking loudly now. He had always laughed at this earlier as he never believed in rumors. But now he had a reason to ponder. Sonkulat, his friend who went there had returned richer now and was all ga ga about this maze.

Manku decided to visit Sonkulat.

It was a maze located in a jungle in southwest and was full of wealth. There was an entrance door which led inside the maze. The maze was dead dark inside. Nothing visible inside. One has to grope inside that dark to find anything.

‘It would not make much difference to me, I already do that’, Manku thought.

There is only one door inside in that maze full of pitfalls that will lead to wealth house. But careful! You need to avoid pitfalls. Use my tip. Stay along the wall and feel for the door.

Manku did that. He stayed along the wall. But he could not avoid the falls. Sometimes it took days to come out of the pit. He struggled

and struggled. A year passed and Manku came back, empty handed…

‘You liar! You made a fool of me. There is no door there. It is a wall all around. No wealth there..’ Manku yelled at Sonkulat while he listened.

‘I will have to go back to job and spend my life in poverty’ Manku sighed and went for his old master.

But Manku was wrong. There was a door indeed. It did lead to store house of wealth. Only he could not find it. Only if he knew why did he fail!

Manku had a strange uncontrollable itch that would appear suddenly and last for minutes. He would never know how he missed the door. But every time he was close to the door he would feel like itching. He would leave the wall to satisfy his itch. After his severe itch got controlled he would restart in opposite direction. He would complete the whole circle again to reach the door from the other side and his itch would strike again.

He missed the door many a times. Finally he decided to come back. He stopped pursuing his dreams.

Manku is back to his job now. He works everyday with a conviction that he is destined to be poor. He is no way content but he shows that he is.

Manku will never attempt to be rich again.

Every time you have failed and have an urge to quit, think. You might be about to succeed. Do not let your dreams be prey of that urge.

Beware of that urge. It is worse than the itch Manku had.

People become successful because they do not quit.

Wish you success.

The Truth About Online Marketing

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 24th, 2011 by admin

I am writing this article in the hopes of lettingpeople know the truth about online marketing andbuilding a home business. I have been in online marketing for almost ten years and have had severalsuccessful businesses and a couple not so successfulbusinesses. In that time, I have learned many truths and seen many misleading half-truths.

So many times you will hear how easy it is to throw upa website and then watch the money come rolling in. Sorry folks, it just doesn’t happen that easily! We are here to tell you the whole truth – no hype or misleadinghalf-truths.

When you read these ads that say things like:

Make $20,000 Your First Month orAll You Have to Do is Send Emails to Make 1000s Weekly!

Delete it or leave the site. Things like this just do nothappen. I am not saying it is impossible, but extremelyunlikely! So, if you are interested in hearing the basicand honest truth about building a home business, keepreading.

Truth #1

Anyone cannot do it!

It takes a certain amount of self-discipline, commitment, perseverance, strength and a LOT of work. Unfortunately,we do not all possess these qualities. If you feel that you do, then you can do it!

Truth #2

Just build it and they will NOT come!

Putting up a website does in no way guarantee sales, success or an income. Just putting up a site and not promoting it, is like whispering someone’s name in a crowd and thinking they will hear it.

You have to work day and night and night and day on promoting your site and getting your name known. Andthere is much more to it then simply placing an ad here and there. There is also much more to building your own businessthan having a website to promote.

Truth #3

You will become frustrated and feel like giving up, many times!

I guarantee you will wonder why you even started doingthis and it will happen many times. Building a homebusiness can be extremely frustrating and overwhelmingat times. That is when connecting with other businessbuilders online and offline can help keep you focused. Join some networking groups so you can talk to others whoare going through the same experiences and feelings as you are. Remind yourself why you started your own business in the first place. You can work through thesefeelings.

Truth #4

You will spend more time than you think working your business.

So many people believe that if they start their own homebusiness they will only have to work a few hours a dayor a few days a week. Sorry, but that would be a hobby, not a business. Building a business, at least for awhile, takes many hours a day, and a lot of times, 7 days a week! Be prepared to work, work, and work some more!

Truth #5

You will lose your confidence from time to time.

This still happens to me and I have been in business for almost ten years! If you feel like you are a failure, take a good look at the business you are in or the companyyou represent. Is this really the business for you? Do you have the passion needed to make this business a success? Don’t be afraid to change your

business. I had several businesses before finding the one that is truly my niche! You cannot let feelings of failure stop you from making your dreams come true.

Truth #6

Success definitely does NOT come quickly or easily!

As I mentioned before, you will need to work your business7 days a week. It will be a part of you for the rest of your life and must become a part of your daily routine. I have seen many people quit their business for reasons like problems with their kids, or their spouse losing their job,or financial problems. These are the people that will notbecome a success. We all have these problems from time to time, but quitting our business is not going to stop them from happening.

Truth #7

You will need to market and advertise offline as well.

So many people mistakenly believe that if they throw up a website, post a few ads here and there, and gab on the emailgroups all day (call it networking), their business will bea success. That is so far from the truth. Networking is fineif you do not perceive it as chatting all day on the email groups. You need to get away from the computer everyday and get out in the real world and market that business!

Join your local Chamber of Commerce, get involved in community events and activities, expand into surroundingcommunities! Pass out flyers, get business cards made upand hand them out to everyone you meet, talk to everyoneyou possibly can about your business.

Your website should be an extension of your business, not your entire business!

Truth #8

Building your own successful business is very rewarding.

And I am not just talking money. It builds your character, boosts your self-confidence, gives you a feeling of pride, makes you feel complete, gives you a purpose and muchmore!

Truth #9

There are a lot of wonderful people online.

One of the things I enjoy most about working online is meeting so many people from so many different places.Without my business, I would never have known thesepeople even existed! Establishing all these online relationships is definitely one of the rewards of online marketing.

Truth #10

I would recommend to anyone who feels they have the qualities needed for success to go for it!

My intentions with all these truths is definitely not to discourage you from starting your own business, butto prepare you for the truth of what lies ahead. Successwill not come easily or quickly. It is a long, hard, frustratingjourney to success. But, if you want it bad enough and possess the qualities needed to finish the journey, successcan be yours!!

And when you finally get there, you will realize that allthe places you momentarily got lost or took a wrong turnwere very instrumental in helping you reach your finaldestination! And you will also realize that it was all worth it. Owning your own successful business is veryrewarding – personally, emotionally and financially!

So What If You Dont Have A Website?

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 22nd, 2011 by admin

Gasp! Choke! Gag! That’s how people react when you tell them your business does not have a website. So do you really need one?

This article attempts to show you how you can use the internet (and websites) to maximise your business potential using simple internet marketing strategies.

Hello, Mr. Superman

If all you do is answer your e-mail promptly, respond to queries and conduct some sort of business over e-mail, you will be achieving more in one day than most websites do in a year!

Life Without Websites: C’est Possible!

Paper was the most effective method of making sure things were read – until e-mail came along. If you look at e-mail as a dynamic form of paper, you will be able to achieve the same (if not better) results in getting your message across convincingly. Unfortunately, most people look at e-mail as a letter writing tool instead of using it as a communication tool.

How to Use E-mail Powerfully!

The key to e-mail is to have a client database in the first place. Not just any database, but people who have worked with you.

Secondly, it must be permission based. People must see your e-mail as being of help to them in their daily lives. Once you have their permission, you can e-mail them on a regular pre-agreed basis and be sure that they appreciate you keeping in touch with them.

A Very, Very Important Fact…

People don’t care about

One of the Golden Rules of Internet Marketing

Posted in Internet marketing specialist on May 21st, 2011 by admin

In my opinion, one of the ‘Golden Rules’ of Internet marketing has to be the following:

‘Once you have uploaded a website, you should leave it online forever – even if it is only making you a couple of dollars a month.’

As long as you are covering the hosting and domain registration fees each year (maximum of a couple of dollars a month), then why take the site offline? Admittedly if the site is causing you hours of work every week and still only making you a couple of dollars income each month, then yes, remove it. But if the site involves you in no work (for example if it sells an eBook or you generate Adsense income etc from it, then why remove it?)

The point is that whilst the site in question may only be generating a small amount today, you never know what might happen tomorrow…..

This principle has been illustrated to me in a pretty big way during the past week and this is the sole reason that it is fresh in my mind and I want to share the experience with you so that you don’t make the mistake that I very nearly made.

I have a site which I built about three years ago. It was a bit of an experiment and not connected to my main income-earning sites in any way. The site covered a topic that was pretty competitive online – an industry for which top search engine rankings were exceptionally hard to get. As I say, it was an experiment and I didn’t really expect the site to make me much money – which was a good thing as it meant that I wasn’t too disappointed when it didn’t! :-)

After a few months of receiving no traffic, the site was eventually picked up by a couple of the major search engines and it started to receive a handful of visitors each day. I guess on a very good day I would get 45 referrals. Needless to say, the site wasn’t making a fortune in income but something is always better than nothing.

Anyway at the beginning of this year I undertook a review of all of my websites and made the decision to ditch a few of the under-performing sites. This is where I nearly made a big mistake by deleting my little site but for whatever reason, the site in question managed to survive my ‘cull’. It was a close call but in the end I decided that even though the site was only making $20 or $30 a month, it wasn’t involving me in any work so it would be stupid to turn it off just for the sake of it.

So the site remained online and up until last week, it continued to tick over as it has done for the past

three years, earning a minimal income every month from the few visitors that manage to find it.

That all changed last Thursday however when Google suddenly decided that my little experiment site was far more valuable than it had previously thought. Yup, Google decided that instead of listing my site way down the rankings for one or two low-level keywords, it would index the site at the top of the rankings (quite literally in first place in many instances) for numerous high-level keywords! :-)

Result? The site has gone from receiving an average of 35 visitors a day from Google to receiving over 500 visitors per day. On the busiest day this week, Google kindly sent the site just under 800 visitors.

Of course, this is great news and the site is already making considerably more profit than it has ever done but just look at how I would have missed out if I had taken the site offline. Remember, this is a site that I have barely touched in three years and I certainly haven’t spent any time optimizing the site for the search engines. It is just a simple case of Google changing their algorithm in a way that favours my site considerably. This is one of those situations which could happen to any website at any time and this is the main reason why I say, once you have a site online, leave it there.

Clearly there is no guarantee that my site is going to stay at the top of Google for any length of time and given my experience of how search engines work, I am prepared for it to drop back down the index at any time but I am certainly enjoying the extra traffic while it lasts.

The above situation also illustrates how fickle search engines can be. Longer term readers will remember that I took the decision not to bother chasing search engine rankings some time ago. This decision was taken after Google decided to move one of my highly optimized sites from top position for countless keywords to about 20th position. This was a site which I had spent weeks optimizing and a site which had held top positions for over two years. Traffic to this site dropped away in hours and that was the point at which I vowed not to waste my time chasing search engine rankings and instead, would just let the search engines sort themselves out and rank my sites as they saw fit.

Sometimes this approach works and sometimes it doesn’t – I try not to let it worry me either way…
